President, Strathcona Mineral Services Limited
Graham Farquharson joined the PSI Foundation’s Board of Directors in 1996 and became the Chair of the Finance Committee in 2007. He retired from PSI in 2013, and it is our distinct pleasure to name this prestigious fellowship after him for his unparalleled service to PSI.
Graham Farquharson resides in Toronto and is the President of Strathcona Mineral Services Limited, a position he has held since 1974. He is a Director of Franco-Nevada Corporation and has recently been appointed Chairman of St Andrew Goldfields Limited. He was formerly a Director of Cambior Inc. and Placer Dome Inc., and several other Canadian mining companies.
Mr. Farquharson holds a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering from the University of Alberta, a Masters of Business Administration from Queen’s University, and is the recipient of an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from the University of New Brunswick.
As the result of a 50-year career in the Canadian mining industry which included developing the first mine in the Canadian High Arctic and the last mining town built in Canada, and the exposure of the largest fraud in the history of mining anywhere in the world related to the reported gold discovery of Bre-X Minerals in Indonesia, Mr. Farquharson was inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame in 2010.
Mr. Farquharson has also made substantial financial commitments in support of medical research including funding the Anna-Liisa Farquharson Chairs in Kidney Cancer at Princess Margaret Hospital and Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, the first such endeavours in kidney cancer research in Canada.
